Ready to dig deep.

A career path doesn’t always progress in a straight line. Our Academic Upgrading program can help you change directions or choose a new path to professional success. We offer upgrading for a variety of math, science and English courses. Or, if you’re looking to complete your General Education Diploma (GED), we can help you prepare to write the test on our campus.

Enrolling in Upgrading

Upgrading courses are used only for admission to post-secondary institutions and do not count towards completing a high school diploma or GED. Provided you have a program in mind, you must meet with a career and academic advisor to determine if a high school diploma is required and if upgrading is necessary for your program. If so, they will be able to explain the process of booking a placement assessment. Career and academic advisors can also help you explore your interests!

Before you get started...

Do some career research.

Answering the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” takes a little more thought now than it did when you were a kid. It is important to research your career options and figure out what you want to be.

Meet with an advisor.

Upgrading courses are used only for admission to post-secondary institutions and do not count towards completing a high school diploma or GED. Check with an academic advisor to determine if your career path requires a high school diploma.

Make “cents” of your money.

Courses in the upgrading program are not post-secondary courses and therefore you are not eligible for student loans. You may be eligible for Foundational Learning Assistance or other funding through your financial institution.

Book a placement assessment

If you are upgrading math and/or English and have not taken a course in those subject areas within the last three years, you must book a placement assessment. This assessment helps place you in the appropriate grade level of upgrading.

If you have a diagnosed learning or other disability, before booking your assessment, contact Accessibility Services for possible testing accommodations.
