In this nationally and internationally accredited program, you’ll turn your strong mathematical and science skills into the creative and logical mind of a civil engineering technologist. 

Starting with a comprehensive introduction to engineering fundamentals in your first year and developing a practical understanding of engineering design in your second, you’ll become familiar with the latest tools and software, use industry-standard computer applications to complete your projects and even have opportunities to interact with today’s engineering technology professionals.

The Civil Engineering Technology program is nationally accredited with Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC). New applicants are accepted into the Civil Engineering Technology program for the Fall (September) term only.

General Admissions Requirements

All applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Lethbridge College programs.

Academic Requirements

In addition to meeting the general admission requirements indicated in the Admission section of this calendar, applicants to this program must also satisfy the following specific course requirements (or equivalencies):

  • a minimum grade of 50 percent in Grade 12 Math (equivalent to Alberta’s Math 30-1) or 60 percent in Grade 12 Math (equivalent to Alberta’s Math 30-2)
  • Grade 11 Physics or Grade 12 Science

Please note that Grade 12 Biology and/or Grade 12 Chemistry will not be accepted in lieu of Grade 12 Science.

Basic understanding of computer technology such as word processing, copying files and familiarity working in a Windows-based environment is required.

Mobile Learning Program

Graduation Requirements

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, students are awarded a Civil Engineering Technology diploma.

Athabasca University

Graduates of Lethbridge College's Civil Engineering Technology diploma are eligible to receive up to 60 credits towards a post-diploma Bachelor of Science (General Science) and up to 30 credits towards a post-diploma Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Human Resources and Labour Relations, or a Bachelor of Management at Athabasca University. 

Graduates are also eligible to receive 30 credits towards a post-diploma Bachelor of Science (Applied Mathematics), Bachelor of Science (Computer and Information Systems), or Bachelor of Science (Human Science) at Athabasca University. Students may receive up to 30 additional credits on a course-by-course basis, provided courses in the diploma fulfill requirements of Athabasca University's post-diploma Bachelor of Science programs. Students should consult Academic Advising at Athabasca University or visit their website for more information. 

Lethbridge College

Graduates of Lethbridge College's Civil Engineering Technology diploma program may gain a second diploma in Engineering Design Technology with an additional 1½ years of study (course scheduling permitting).

Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)

Graduates of Lethbridge College's Civil Engineering Technology diploma, with a minimum GPA of 2.7, are eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Technology program at NAIT. Graduates must meet the competitive admission and selection requirements of the Bachelor of Technology at the time of application. Students should consult an Academic Advisor at NAIT for further information. 

Royal Roads University

Graduates of Lethbridge College's Civil Engineering Technology diploma, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, are eligible to receive block transfer into the third year of the Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management at Royal Roads University - provided all entrance criteria for admissions to Royal Roads University are met and space remains available. Students should consult Academic Advising at Royal Roads University or visit their website for further information. 

Saskatchewan Polytechnic

Graduates of Lethbridge College's Civil Engineering Technology diploma program, who have completed the appropriate bridging courses, may be eligible for acceptance into the post-diploma Bachelor of Construction Management at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
