It’s time to register for Lethbridge College’s Kodiaks Coke Cake Holiday Bake-off!

The annual cake decorating contest began in 2020 as an alumni engagement initiative. Now, the popular event has expanded, meaning anyone – not just Lethbridge College alumni – can participate for the chance to win a brand-new KitchenAid mixer and a swag bag full of LC and Coca-Cola goodies.

"The Kodiaks Coke Cake Holiday Bake-off is a tradition that is close to our hearts because it’s all about the joy of bringing people together and quality time spent in the kitchen – and the sprinkle of friendly competition doesn't hurt either," says Stephanie Savage, Alumni and Engagement manager. "Due to the incredible outpouring of love and support this contest has received over the past three years, we're excited to extend the invitation to all members of our community this year. We have 300 kits to give away, but the recipe will be available online for anyone who wants to be part of the fun!"

Interested bakers can register for a free cake kit to be picked up between 4 and 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 or Dec. 1 in the college’s front loop.

The kit comes with a custom cake recipe developed by Chef Amanda Kawchuk, an instructor in, and graduate of, the college’s School of Culinary Arts. All dry ingredients are included and come pre-measured and pre-mixed, though creative add-ins are encouraged! A can of Coca-Cola is also supplied.

Made by Gail McCready, the cake tied for first place in the 2022-23 Kodiaks Coke Cake Holiday Bake-off.

Cakes should be decorated in either a Coca-Cola or Kodiaks theme. Once complete, bakers can send a photo of their masterpieces to lethbridgecollege.ca/holidaybakeoff. Entries must be submitted by midnight on Dec. 20 to be included in the voting process. An online voting portal will be shared on the Lethbridge College Alumni Facebook page when voting opens on Dec. 21.

Voting will close at midnight on Dec. 31, and the five cakes with the most votes will be judged by a committee comprised of college employees, students, alumni and community members. The winner will be announced Jan. 3.

The Kodiaks Coke Cake Holiday Bake-off is sponsored by Coca-Cola, whose long-time support of Lethbridge College has included contributing to Alumni Engagement, the School of Culinary Arts, Kodiaks Athletics, the Kodiak House residence project and student awards.

The innovative project has been named one of the best in the alumni and engagement industry, with judges calling it an “impressively innovative concept, combining niche appeal with broad family-friendly appeal, making it truly exceptional.”
