Campus News

The Lethbridge College flag has been lowered in memory of a valued member of our community. Melissa Reed Boogaart, an operations assistant in the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation (CTLI), passed away suddenly Tuesday.

Reed Boogaart graduated from the college’s Multimedia Production program in 2006. She started working at the college in 2017, first with our regional stewardship team, then later with Digital Learning in CTLI. Jackie Doherty, Dean of CTLI, describes Reed Boogaart’s superpower as helping others. She was often the go-to for a range of questions due to her depth of understanding of the department and the college and her excellent way of working with people.

She was a highly engaged employee. She served as secretary of the AUPE local and was a member of the Reclassification and Occupational Health and Safety committees.

The college has arranged for counselling support to be on campus in CTLI’s office Wednesday and Thursday. Employees can access support through our Employee and Family Assistance Program. Student support is available through Wellness Services. Telus also has a crisis support line available to anyone at 1-844-751-2133.

A visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 4 at Martin Brothers Riverview Chapel at 610 4 St. S., Lethbridge. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, also at Martin Brothers Riverview Chapel. The college will lower the flag on Dec. 12 in Reed Boogaart's honour.

Messages of condolence and her obituary are on the Martin Brothers website
