Alumni

It’s not the holidays without traditions, and Lethbridge College and Coca-Cola are adding to the festive cheer by bringing back a favourite. The Holiday Bake-off Kodiak Coke Cake contest returns for a second year, giving Lethbridge College alumni the chance to enjoy a delicious treat, while having the chance to win an amazing prize pack.

The contest is free to all Lethbridge College alumni – and it’s easy to register and participate. Alumni can register online and then pick up the cake mix, ingredients and recipe card at the college on Dec. 8. They will then bake the cake at home, decorate it with a Kodiaks or Coke theme, and then send in a photo of the finished product to be entered in the contest. Entries will be voted on by the Lethbridge College community, with the winner earning a prize pack that includes a KitchenAid mixer and a selection of Coca-Cola and Lethbridge College swag.

“Coca-Cola has been a valued partner of Lethbridge College for many years and continues to amaze us with their generosity and support,” says Stephanie Savage, Lethbridge College Alumni Engagement manager. “Coke has always aimed to inspire moments of happiness, and that's what we hope this initiative can bring to our alumni this holiday season. It doesn't matter if you are an experienced baker or have no skills in the kitchen at all. This is about the experience and the fun!”

The initial version of the contest in 2020 saw more than 90 entries from college alumni. The cake recipe, which is sweetened by the addition of Coca-Cola, was developed by Chef Amanda Kawchuk, an instructor in and graduate of the college’s School of Culinary Arts.

College alumni can sign-up for a free kit online and pick it up by driving through the college’s front loop between 4 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 8. Step-by-step baking instructions are included; participants need to provide just eggs and oil to complete the recipe, although participants are allowed, and encouraged, to use additional ingredients to bring the decorated cake to life. Photos of the finished product must be uploaded to lethbridgecollege.ca/holidaybakeoff by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 19.

The Alumni Holiday Bakeoff is sponsored by Coca-Cola, whose long-time support of Lethbridge College has included contributing to Alumni Engagement, the School of Culinary Arts, Kodiaks Athletics, the Kodiak House residence project and student awards.
