Now a popular tradition with Lethbridge College alumni, the contest encourages bakers of all skill levels to get creative using a custom cake recipe developed by Chef Amanda Kawchuk, an instructor in, and graduate of, the college’s School of Culinary Arts.

Cakes are decorated in a Coca-Cola or Kodiaks theme and then voted on by the college community. The artist behind the winning cake will take home a brand-new KitchenAid mixer and a swag bag full of Lethbridge College and Coca-Cola merch.

“We started this in 2020 as a way to lift the spirits of our alumni and to keep people engaged, but now it’s become a fantastic tradition that we look forward to all year,” says Stephanie Savage, Lethbridge College Alumni Engagement manager. “The creativity that exists within our community continues to blow us away. Thanks to our amazing friends at Coca-Cola for helping us fill the holiday season with joy, magic and togetherness.”

Alumni can register for a free cake kit online. All dry ingredients are included and come pre-measured and pre-mixed. Coca-Cola, a special sweet ingredient, is also supplied. Only eggs and oil are needed to complete the step-by-step recipe, though bakers are encouraged to use additional mix-ins of their choosing. Kits can be picked up from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 or 13 by driving through the college’s front loop.

All bake-off contestants, near and far, must submit a photo of their decorated masterpiece to lethbridgecollege.ca/holidaybakeoff by midnight on Dec. 24. Voting will take place from Dec. 26 to Dec. 30 on the LC Alumni social channels – facebook.com/LethCollegeAlumni and instagram.com/lc_alumni/. The winner will be announced on Jan. 4.

The Holiday Bake-off is sponsored by Coca-Cola, whose long-time support of Lethbridge College has included contributing to Alumni Engagement, the School of Culinary Arts, Kodiaks Athletics, the Kodiak House residence project and student awards.
