Aquaponics naturally evolved from aquaculture in an effort to eliminate fish waste. Research in Alberta has largely been driven by the industry itself as those in the greenhouse strive to perfect models and methods. In the mid-1990s, a number of fish growers in Alberta began the transition into aquaponics by building greenhouses and growing vegetables.

Lethbridge College Motus system to track flightpaths of migratory birds

The School of Environmental Sciences at Lethbridge College is eager to study more about the migratory flightpaths of animals as a relatively new collaborator on the Motus Wildlife Tracking System. A program of Birds Canada, Motus is an international collaborative research network that uses telemetry – the automatic measurement and wireless transmission of data from remote sources – to facilitate research and education on the ecology and conservation of migratory animals.

The fifth annual Tecconnect Challenge takes place for Lethbridge College students on Tuesday. Ecosystem Management student earns national scholarship

A Lethbridge College student has been awarded a prestigious scholarship by Canada’s Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus. Monica Bartha, who is completing the Ecosystem Management – Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with a specialization in Fish and Wildlife Management, was one of just 10 students from across Canada selected for the honour.

Business Administration program receives CPA grant for digital accounting simulations

Lethbridge College Business Administration students, and their instructors, will soon be gaining valuable skills while saving time and paper thanks to a $41,250 grant to develop digital case studies. The funding comes from the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Education Foundation., Canada’s only accounting designation, who have recognized that Lethbridge College’s expertise in accounting extends to research and development of teaching practice as well as the teaching itself.

Students and their families have a chance to get a head start on the new school year as Lethbridge College hosts a Family Orientation session tomorrow. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Food Court (AN1639), the information session is designed for parents, spouses and other adult family members of students coming to the college this fall.
