A new era of Lethbridge College Kodiaks soccer kicks off this weekend with an important two-game set on the Kodiaks’ home field.

Sean Carey will make his debut as head coach of both the men’s and women’s teams after taking over the programs from long-time coach Mike Racz earlier this year. Carey previously coached the women’s program from 2009 to 2011, while this is his first time taking the reins for the men’s team.

“I think that our entire coaching staff is excited to get going and see what these teams can do,” says Carey. “The women’s team is young and will give us a solid core of players to build around over the next few seasons. And the men’s side is going to be exciting and we’re looking forward to letting them go and show what they can do.”

The Kodiaks open the ACAC with two home games this weekend, on Saturday against Red Deer College and then on Sunday against Lakeland College. In a short, 10-game season, two home games this early in the schedule are crucial to build momentum and set the team up for success, as both clubs look to return to the conference playoffs after missing out last season.

“We’re very lucky to have a home opener on the home weekend, to build off the excitement of the start of school,” says Carey. “The players are all talking about how excited they are to get going and it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch.”
