Lethbridge College’s Be Fit for Life Centre is hosting its annual Winter Walk Day on Wednesday. This event encourages the college’s students and employees to embrace winter by demonstrating that a winter outdoor activity like walking can be a healthy, enjoyable experience.

This year, the entire southern Alberta community is invited to join in as well. Anyone who is interested in taking part is invited to stop by at 12:05 p.m. tomorrow in the college’s Centre Core. The walk will take about 15 minutes.

New for 2017 is the President vs. President Challenge. Lethbridge College President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns will face off with Lethbridge College Students’ Association President Sharyn Moore in a series of winter-themed challenges at the conclusion of the walk.

“We really want to encourage everyone to step away from their desks and get some fresh air,” says Tiffany Wideen, projects coordinator for the Be Fit for Life Centre. “Studies have shown that even a short, 15-minute walk outside can do wonders for your body and mind. And we hope the challenge between the two presidents adds a whole new level of fun for everyone involved.”

Winter Walk Day is a provincial initiative that encourages Albertans to Open the Door and Go for It! during winter. Last year, more than 800 organizations and 100,000 Albertans took part. Learn more at winterwalkday.ca.
