The Calgary Flames have notched a symbolic hat trick by signing on to sponsor Lethbridge College’s golf tournament for a third-straight year. The Flames are a platinum sponsor of this year’s 34th annual tournament that will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Lethbridge Country Club.

“The Flames value being involved with the southern Alberta community and their support will directly help us support our students,” says Lethbridge College President and CEO, Dr. Paula Burns. “We’ve teed up an ambitious fundraising goal to celebrate our 60th anniversary and the Flames involvement is helping us get closer to tapping in that final putt.”

This year’s tournament has a fundraising goal of $60,000, with all money raised going to support a variety of new student awards.

The Flames will be visible throughout the day, headlined by providing an incredible dressing room experience package for four, including a tour of the Flames facilities and tickets to a game, which will be auctioned off during the tournament. The sponsorship is an extension of a strong partnership between the Flames and Lethbridge College that includes college students being eligible to receive the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation Scholarships for post-secondary students in rural Alberta from the Calgary Flames Foundation.

“The Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation is honoured to support Lethbridge College again this season and on an annual basis with student scholarships awarded from the Calgary Flames Foundation,” says Candice Goudie, Executive Director, Calgary Flames Foundation.

“The mandate established by the ownership group when the team was brought to Calgary was to improve the lives of southern Albertans through the teams’ presence in this province,” says Rollie Cyr, Calgary Flames VP Sales, Ticketing and Customer Service. “Support of Lethbridge programming and athletics through this event is important to this organization and a partnership we are proud of.”

The NHL ties continue in some of the other auction items up for grabs at the tournament, including a one-of-a-kind authentic NHL All-Star Game jersey signed by all six Sutter brothers. NHL alumni Rich Sutter and Mikko Makela will also be taking part in the tournament, and one lucky golfer will have the chance to join their team. Another unique item available in the auction is a signed championship t-shirt and photo of the CCAA national champion Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s basketball team.

Last week, the Cox Financial Group kickstarted a challenge campaign that urges other companies and individuals to donate directly to helping the college reach its $60,000 goal. Those interested can donate directly online through lethbridgecollege.ca/golf.

Lethbridge College’s Golf Tournament is the longest-running charity golf event in southern Alberta. The event has raised more than $200,000 over the last five years and more than $832,000 over the tournament's 33-year history.
