Lethbridge College is collaborating with many industries in southern Alberta to address diverse issues such as drought and sustainability, agri-food expansion, and public safety using extended reality and innovative high-tech solutions.

Lethbridge College will receive $1 million in infrastructure funding from the provincial government to expand the capacity of its applied research in irrigation science.

Lethbridge College will receive $120,000 per year over the next three years for a new research project that will use art and Blackfoot worldviews to support marginalized populations as they reintegrate into the community.

Lethbridge College has received a significant boost toward its vision of making Alberta a global leader in virtual and augmented reality. Alberta Innovates announced that the college has received a $709,202 grant as part of the Ecosystem Development Partnerships program. The grant will help the college’s Spatial Technologies Applied Research and Training (START) Centre serve as a provincial hub for Alberta’s extended reality (XR) technology, services and operations.

Lethbridge College will receive more than $350,000 for a greenhouse lighting research project, which will be the first major project in the college’s new 10,000 square foot on-campus research greenhouse – The Centre for Sustainable Food Production.  

Lethbridge College celebrated the grand opening of its Spatial Technologies Applied Research and Training (START) Centre on Friday.

New research findings will help greenhouse producers make informed decisions for growing more produce while saving money. The project, run collaboratively by researchers from Lethbridge College’s Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CARIE) and the grow team at Sunterra Greenhouse, tested novel varieties of strawberries and tomatoes under diverse greenhouse growing conditions.

Lethbridge College’s agriculture researchers work alongside collaborators and industry partners to solve problems and create new innovations that make a real-world difference. In the coming weeks, those researchers will put their work on display as part of three Research in RINSA networking events.
