KB Plumbing and Heating, a partner of Lethbridge College in numerous projects over many years, is once again showing its commitment to the college with a $100,000 multi-faceted gift.
“We recognize the importance of local training as a way to keep our most talented employees in southern Alberta,” says Keith Broadbent, President of KB Plumbing and Heating. “Lethbridge College has long proven to be a leader in providing training to numerous sectors, with many of our employees in all areas of our operations having come through the college.”
The gift is pledged to benefit three major areas. The first supports the college’s new trades and technologies facility. A classroom in phase two of the facility, opening in 2017, will be named the “KB Plumbing and Heating Classroom.”
The second component to the gift is to benefit new student awards in three areas:
- three annual $500 awards for plumbing, the very first awards created for the brand new Plumbing Apprenticeship program
- one annual $1,000 award for engineering technologies alternating between the Engineering Design and Drafting program and the Civil Engineering Technology program
- one annual $1,000 award for the Administrative Office Professional program, in recognition of the invaluable role played by office staff in KB’s operations
Finally, this gift includes KB Plumbing and Heating’s commitment towards The College Home partnership. KB is one of the longest running partners in the history of the project, donating to five of the six completed homes to date.
“KB Plumbing and Heating is one of Lethbridge’s premier employers and its support of the college has been unwavering,” says Lethbridge College President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns. “KB is making a strong statement by backing multiple programs and projects, proving that Lethbridge College is providing top-notch industry training in a wide array of fields.”
KB Plumbing and Heating has also taken a hands-on role as a partner in the construction of the new trades and technologies facility as the mechanical contractor - the company’s largest ever project. “To literally help build a state-of-the-art facility from the ground up is an exciting experience for us, laying the groundwork for our future employees,” says Broadbent.
The first phase of the new facility welcomed apprenticeship students last August and officially opened on Sept. 30. When completed in 2017, the new trades and technologies facility will be the largest centre of its kind south of Calgary and will house students in eight skilled trades and four technology programs.
KB Plumbing and Heating opened in 1983, growing from a one-person shop to an industry leader with more than 30 years of service. Employing 120 people, KB is Lethbridge’s largest local mechanical contractor, offering both residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC, fabrication and welding services.
