The hallways have started to fill with students prepping for the beginning of classes next week at Lethbridge College.

Lethbridge College will have select services open throughout the Labour Day long weekend for new and returning students. Academic advising, the bookstore, Buchanan Library, International Services, residence and student services will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

New Student Orientation (NSO), presented by ATB Financial, is Tuesday and features keynote speaker Daryn Jones. This is the sixth year that Lethbridge College has partnered with ATB Financial to provide new students with this orientation to show them the supports and activities available to them throughout the school year.

“It’s always exciting for us to see the new students on their first day at the college,” says Rob Smith, Vice President , Alberta South, ATB Financial. “Having the opportunity to work with Lethbridge College to provide a meaningful and informative day for these students and their parents is a great way for ATB Financial to support our community.”

This year’s special guest at NSO is Daryn Jones, who has been a writer and a weekly correspondent on Rick Mercer’s Monday Report since the program debuted on CBC Television in January 2004. He is also the star, writer and producer of Buzz, a long-running series on The Comedy Network, and the host of CBC TV’s Over the Rainbow. Jones was the longstanding host of MTV’s flagship series MTV Live for over five years and was a correspondent for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics on CTV. Jones will be speaking to students at 10 a.m. in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

“The staff at Lethbridge College knows how important it is for students to have support as well as easy access to resources as they make this transition to college life,” says Student Experience Manager Nancy Russell. “New Student Orientation is one way we provide our students with the knowledge they need about these essential campus services. These resources help to keep them engaged and to foster success during their time at Lethbridge College – and even once they leave.”

More than 2,100 new students are entering the college this year. Some 4,150 students in total are registered in credit and apprenticeship programs this fall.
