The Kodiaks announced four talented student-athletes as the October and November Athletes of the Month at Lethbridge College. Emily Lucas and Nico Pasquotti were recognized for their achievements in October and Emma Lowry and Alex Harding were recognized for their achievements in November.

Emily Lucas graduated from high school in Innisfail, Alta., and is a Renewable Resource Management student. She won both the first and second ACAC women’s 5K Grand Prix races hosted by Concordia University and Lethbridge College this fall. She led the Kodiaks women’s team to win the team Grand Prix awards in both races.

Lucas is “a positive, focused, and determined student athlete who finds the time to run while enjoying her academic environmental science program,” says head coach Bertil Johansson. She finished off her first year as a Kodiak by earning an ACAC bronze individual medal at championships, helping her team earn the gold at the provincial championships, being voted the ACAC Female Rookie Runner of the Year and again helping lead her team to a CCAA National Championships bronze medal.

Nico Pasquotti graduated from Catholic Central High School in Lethbridge and is an Engineering Design and Draft Technology student. The outside midfielder has had a dominant month for the Kodiaks men’s soccer team.

“Nico's goal scoring tally and accolades are a testament to the hard work that he put in over the course of the season,” says head coach Michael Racz. “Few players in the league or in the country have the ability to change a game like Nico!”

Pasquotti had a season to remember both individually and as a team leader, helping the Kodiaks come from a 2-9-1 record last year to finish 8-1-1 this year. He led the team in claiming first place in the ACAC south, earning a team silver medal at provincials, making all conference honours, being chosen as the ACAC Player of the Year and then topping it off with Lethbridge College’s first-ever soccer CCAA national Player of the Year honours.

Emma Lowry, a third-year Massage Therapy student, comes to the Kodiaks from Lundbreck, Alta. She is the third Lowry sister to put on a Kodiaks uniform and is making her family proud.

In a competitive ACAC south division of women’s basketball, Lowry is sitting first in field goal percentages at 64.2 per cent; second in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game; seventh in rebounds at 8.11/game; eighth in steals game at 2.56/game; and 13th in assists per game at the end of the first half of the ACAC season. These numbers only attesting to how well-rounded of a student athlete Lowry has been so far in this 2015-16 season and a reason the women are undefeated and ranked first in the nation this season.

“Emma is one of the main reasons why the Kodiak women's basketball team has gone undefeated and ranked number one in Canada this past three weeks,” says head coach Brad Karren. “She has played outstanding and has also been a great role model for the rest of the team. It has been a pleasure watching her play this past month.”

Alex Harding comes to the Kodiaks from Taber and is in his third year of the Nursing program. He is joined on the team by his younger brother, Andrew, and together they have helped lead the way for the Kodiaks to claim gold in the ACAC provincial championships and silver in the CCAA national championships.

For his efforts in the 2015 running season, Harding was voted as the ACAC Top Male Runner of the Year, received an all-conference honor, an all-Canadian award, finished sixth overall at nationals, earned first team All Canadian recognition at national championships and helped the team work its way to a CCAA silver medal.

“Alex came well prepared to the CCAA Cross Country Championships in Brockville, Ont., winning the ACAC title two weeks earlier in Lethbridge,” says Head coach Bertil Johansson. “At nationals he stayed with the top pack for most of the race and finished sixth overall in the men's 8km muddy and slippery race. He finished under 27 min which pulled his team up to a team silver medal behind a Sherbrooke team that came from behind and earned the gold. A fantastic winning year for Alex with three indoor track golds and the ACAC champs as he retires from running this season!”
