The Canadian Home Builders’ Association - Lethbridge Region (CHBA) and Lethbridge College celebrated the fifth and final year of The College Home partnership in a ground breaking ceremony Thursday. Along with local builder Stranville Living Master Builder, the partners broke ground on the final home to be built by CHBA builder members, suppliers and tradespeople to benefit the new trades and technologies facility at Lethbridge College. The first phase of the new facility opened to students in August 2015 and the official grand opening of the final phase will be this September.

In 2013, CHBA and Lethbridge College announced a unique partnership to build a series of homes over five years with proceeds from the sales of each home going toward the new trades and technologies facility at the college. Leading up to this final year, donations from the previous homes built have brought the donation over $720,000. When the eighth and final home is sold, the projected donation total will surpass the original pledge of $750,000.

President of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Lethbridge Region, Angela Cornforth remarked, “We are at the end of the project and as we round out the home stretch with our financial pledge nearly met, the anticipation builds to see the final result of the entire donation, to see the completed trades and technologies facility and to see those first students begin the next chapter of their lives. Whether you are part of Lethbridge College or the CHBA, you are a part of this program and you should be proud and take ownership of such a famous and unique project. It’s simply amazing. The longevity of this program, the support, the impact. Since the beginning I hoped we would reach our goal but to see it so close to completion in this fifth year; it makes all of the hard work our members have put in worth it. It will be even better to see those students walk through the doors of the new trades and technologies facility and know that we had a hand in their future.”

Stranville Living has an important reason for participating this year. “We understand that building great homes and providing outstanding post-possession service is only possible by using the highest quality products installed by highly-trained industry professionals,” says Dell Mathews, General Manager, Stranville Living Master Builder. “Stranville Living Master Builder embraces the opportunity to contribute financially to the training of our local workforce through the world-class facility at Lethbridge College, and is honored to be associated with the College Home project for the second time.”

Lethbridge College is very excited to once again be a partner in this initiative and is looking forward to working closely with Stranville Living.

“This is a year that has plenty to celebrate, including the college’s 60th anniversary and the culmination of the fantastic College Home partnership,” says Dr. Paula Burns, Lethbridge College President and CEO. “We are so thankful for the dedication of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Lethbridge Region and its members over the past five years, an effort that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars for the new trades and technologies facility and trades training at the college. Having Stranville Living lead the build for an unprecedented second time is a great way to finish the project, and we can’t wait to see the home they create.”
