Lethbridge College’s newest event, A Night to Remember, promises to be just that. The event, which will be held on May 31 in the Garden Court Restaurant, will feature a 1920s prohibition theme in honour of the college’s School of Justice Studies.

“From the peephole door to the fun casino and décor inside, our guests will feel like they’ve stepped back in time when they enter our speakeasy,” Lana Walsh, Special Events Coordinator says. “We’re bringing the theme into everything our guests will experience including the food, drinks and entertainment.”

The night will feature Herb Hicks Trio with Sheena Lawson as the entertainment, a live auction and a silent auction, a photo booth, and a fun casino run by the Kinette Club of Lethbridge. “I’m very excited about the live auction,” adds Walsh. “I’ve been doing a lot of research about the 1920s to see what was invented or started during that time and used that information to come up with auction items. For example, Freon was invented in the 1920s so we’ve got a nice wine fridge from Canadian Tire with a case of wine from Andrew Hilton in our live auction.”

The signature item in the live auction will be the Eliot Ness Boot Camp. This package includes a half-day with Stan Wills, Jr., a Pan American games shooter and Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame inductee. He will give instructions on how to use a minimum of 10 firearms from handguns to rifles. In addition, the winner of this item will spend a half-day with the Lethbridge Regional Police Service’s Tactical Team. During the day, they will receive instructions on dynamic and stealth entries, building clearing, hostage rescue and more.

In addition to the live and silent auctions, guests will be able to purchase tickets for a draw for a diamond ring from Foster and Sons Jewellers, to use their fake money from the casino to enter draws for prizes, and to purchase props for their costumes from our “cigar girls.”

“I’m just so excited about this event,” Walsh concludes. “There’s nothing else like it in Lethbridge. I can’t wait to see our guests enjoy this trip back in time to the Roaring ‘20s.”
