Admissions

The process of reviewing your application to a program for admittance.  You will receive information from the Admissions Department about your next steps once your application has been received.


Registration

The process of being enrolled into individual courses.  You will receive information from the Registration Department about your courses after you have confirmed your offer of admission by paying the tuition deposit.


Offer of Admission

The letter indicating you have met the admissions requirements and are being offered a seat in the program. Once you have accepted your Offer of Admission and submitted your deposit, the registration process will begin. The deposit serves as a credit towards your total tuition bill.

Conditional Offer of Admission

The letter offering you a seat in the program with conditions that must be met before a deadline date. Acceptance of the offer and conditions within the offer require payment of the deposit before the deadline date. The deposit serves as a credit towards your total tuition bill.


Deposit

As part of your acceptance letter we will require a deposit to confirm your seat in the program.  The deposit is a credit towards your total tuition bill.


Credit Load in a Term*

Full-time status

During the Fall (September to December) Winter (January to April) and Spring Long (May to August) terms, you must be registered in at least nine credits to have full-time status.

During the Summer (July to August) and Spring Short (May to June) terms, you must be registered in at least 4.5 credits to have full-time status.

Part Time Status

Any credit load below the threshold of full-time studies. Please note if you are funded, an athlete on a Kodiak team or attending on a study visa, you must maintain a full-time status.

Lethbridge College Acronyms

ACAC Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. Governing body for intercollegiate athletics in Alberta.

AgENT Pronounced ay-jent. Agriculture Entrepreneur in Residence. This is an extracurricular program that provides experiential learning opportunities for students related to innovation and entrepreneurship. Open to students from all programs.

BFFL Be Fit For Life. One of nine centres in the Alberta Be Fit For Life Network, who work together and with partners to inspire, educate and support Albertans to lead healthy, physically active lives. BFFL is part of Continuing and Corporate Education. It operates from the Physical Education Building and offers program for staff and public.

C-BAS Pronounced SEE-bass. Centre for Business, Arts and Sciences, known as the Centre for Arts and Applied Sciences (CASS) prior to July 1, 2021.

CCAA Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. National coordination body for college sports.

CHW Centre for Health and Wellness.

CJHS Centre for Justice and Human Services.

CRLC The call letters for the campus radio station, The Kodiak. The station is part of Lethbridge Campus Media, offering practical experience to students in the Digital Communications and Media program.

CTED Pronounced SEE-ted. Centre for Technology, Environment and Design.

DL Distance Learning. Distributed learning or distance learning. Learning occurs at different physical or virtual locations. Some Lethbridge College DL courses are offered entirely online, and this predates the flexible learning model the college embraced in response to COVID-19.

EL Experiential Learning. Hands-on learning opportunities.

ELC English Language Centre. A program that provides specialized second language instruction.

GPA Grade Point Average. System for assigning student grades. At Lethbridge College, GPA is a four-point system.

LC Lethbridge College.

LCSA Lethbridge College Students' Association. The students' association that provides governance, student health benefits and student activities.

LGBTQ Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trangender, queer. Also written as LGBTQ2+ or LGBTTTQQIAA. The Q may stand for questioning and the 2 for two-spirited. The plus sign signifies a number of other identities.

LMS Learning Management System. A generic term for an online platform used to house and deliver courses to students and employees. The main LMS for students is Canvas.

NSO New Student Orientation. An annual event held in fall and winter to orient new students.

O365 Pronounced Oh-Three-Sixty-Five. Office 365. Formerly known as Microsoft 365, is a suite of products and services delivered through the Microsoft Cloud. This includes Exchange email service, Office applications like Word and Excel, OneDrive, Sharepoint and Teams.

PBE Practice-based experience. A generic term for workplace-based learning such as practicums, preceptorships and field studies. Also known as WIL, work-integrated learning.

PLA Prior learning assessment. An evaluation of previous education and experience to determine student placement.

RA Resident assistant. Student employee who lives in on-campus housing and supports other residents.

RAC Pronounced rack. Residence Activity Centre. Commonly refers to the general purpose meeting room in the Cullen Residence Activity centre, north of the Physical Education Building.

RO Registrar's Office. The department that oversees admissions, transcripts, Convocation, issuance of parchments and offers the front-line services for any student inquiries. Think of this as the business side of being a student at Lethbridge College.

S# Pronounced ess-number. Refers to the individual identification number assigned to each student and employee.

SLICK Simulated Learning Incident for Collaboration and Knowledge. This is a massive simulated exercise for students in five programs to put theory into practice during a simulated emergency situation.

SPHERE Simulated Patient Health Environment for Research and Education. Refers to a lab space in the Centre for Health and Wellness that can replicate experiences of a patient receiving hospital care.

TTIF Pronounced tiff. Trades, Technologies and Innovation Facility. See also TT and TTRIP.

WATS Weekly Apprenticeship Training System. Employees from the community come in once per week to complete training. They pursue education while holding down jobs in the industry. Found in the cooking and baking apprenticeship programs.

Places

Andrews Building. Room numbers in this building have the AN prefix. Named for Kate Andrews, one of the founders of Lethbridge College.

Aquarium (CE1340F). A small group meeting space in the Learning Commons, also known as the library.

Bakeshop (AN1639). If you order Christmas, Easter or Valentine’s cakes or cookies, this door is where you’ll pick up your orders.

The Barn (standalone building on 30 Avenue South, at the eastern side of campus). Informal and historic name for the D.A. Electric Barn, the Barn was once a community concert venue and was used for roller staking in the 1950s and 1960s. As part of the college campus, it was a student and employee hangout. Today, it’s a storage space.

Brown Bag Area (AN1531). Historic name for Founders’ Square, the sitting area directly across from the Food Court.

Buchanan Library (AN1340). The library space is home to the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation, which includes library services, the Learning Café, Accessibility Services and more. The space includes gallery space to display works from the Buchanan Art Collection, donated to the college in 1958 by brothers Donald and Hugh Buchanan, in honour of their parents, Senator William Asbury and Alma Buchanan.
This space was given a Blackfoot name Niitsitapi’ksimpstaan by the college’s Kainai Kaahsinnoonik (Grandparent), Peter Weasel Moccasin. The name means “Real Thinking” and celebrates the learning journey of the students who use the space.

​​​​​​​Cullen Residence, buildings along the west side of campus, across 36 Avenue South from the Physical Education Building. This on-campus housing complex offers four-bedroom family units and two-bedroom suites. It includes the Cullen Residence Activity Centre, or RAC.C

The Cave (CE1300). A student lounge operated by Lethbridge College Students’ Association (LCSA).

Centre Core, first floor College Centre. This is the main common area, just inside the main front entrance to the college. A statue of a coal miner, by Cornelius Martens, watches over the space. You can’t miss it. This area may also be referred to as “The Pit” or “The Coal Miner Pit.”

Coulee’s Edge (CE1340). A meeting space overlooking the coulees at the back of the library which is suited to small social events. Booking is handled by CTLI.

The Courtroom (AN1756). A realistic courtroom used by students in our Justice programs for mock trials.

Culinary Market (AN1665). A grab-and-go food service area offering sandwiches, soups, coffee and other items.

​​​​​​​Cullen Residence, buildings along the west side of campus, across 36 Avenue South from the Physical Education Building. This on-campus housing complex includes the Cullen Residence Activity Centre, or RAC.

Daycare (TE1203 to TE1210, including a large outdoor space). The campus daycare serves children aged 19 months to school age. Priority for spaces is given to LC students, then employees, then public. The accredited daycare is operated by Hands on Early Learning Centre.

E.C. Fredericks Theatre (CE1365). A large lecture theatre, also referred to as the Fredericks Theatre.

Fishbowl (CB1016). A study space on the first floor of Cousins Building.

Fishbowl (CE1334). A group study space in the library.

Food Court (AN1671). Open for breakfast and lunch and featuring fresh baked goods from our Bake Shop.

Founders’ Square (AN1531). A social space that tells the story of Lethbridge College’s history. Once known as the Brown Bag Area.

Garden Court Dining Room/Garden Court Restaurant (AN1680). A restaurant run by the students from the Culinary Careers diploma program, offering menus throughout the year, including lunches and fine dining.

The Gathering Place (AN1501). Informal name for the Niitsitapi Gathering Place (AN1501), a student space operated by Indigenous Services.

Greenhouse (south end of campus). A variety of plants grow as part of the college’s Aquaculture Centre of Excellence, in recycled water. The zero waste growing environment includes live fish stock whose waste serves as fertilizer to the plants.

The Hubbard Collection (CB1024). The Alfred Hubbard and Family Alberta Wildlife Collection is one of the largest collections of native wildlife species displays in Western Canada. The collection is used by students in our Environmental Science program, but school groups and the public can book tours as well.

IB Instructional Building. Home to the IB Commons (IB1112), a computer lab and common study space for students; IB Theatres (IB1101, IB1102, IB1103, IB1104) and the IB Kiosk (IB1108), a small social space at the entrance to the IB Theatres.  

International Student Lounge (AN1718). A social space for international students.

The Kiosk (CE1321). A small social space that faces into Centre Core, operated by Lethbridge College Students’ Association (LCSA). Used to serve hot breakfasts, popcorn promotions and for information sharing and giveaways.

Kodiak House, 30 Avenue South, east side of campus. Offers single suites. ​​​​​​​

Learning Commons (CE1340). Refers to the home of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation, a space that includes the library, Learning Café, Accessibility Services and more.

Lost and Found (CE1304). Maintained by the Security Office. Visit Security at CE1303 to check Lost and Found.

Massage Clinic (TE1235, TE1236 and TE1237). Open to the public, the Student Massage Therapy Clinic provides professional massage at a special rate. Services are not tax-deductible, nor can they be reimbursed through insurance, but they do provide Massage Therapy students work-integrated learning experience.

Multi Faith Room (AN1716). A space for individuals in the college community to use for reasons associated with any faith such as meditation or quiet reflection. The space is for individual, drop-in use only.

Niitsitapi Gathering Place (AN1501). A student lounge operated by Indigenous Services, also referred to as The Gathering Place. There are computers for student use, comfy chairs and study spaces.

Niitsitapi'ksimpstaan (CE1340). The name is Blackfoot, meaning “Real Thinking.” Home to the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation. The Buchanan Library space houses nine departments including the Learning Café, Accessibility Services, Learning Experience Design and more. Sometimes referred to as the Learning Commons.

Paterson Building. Room numbers in this building have the PA prefix. Named for Gilbert Paterson, a teacher-turned-lawyer, and one of the founders of Lethbridge College.

The Pit, also known as the Coal Miner Pit (CE1300D). A common area in College Centre around the Coal Miner Statue. The areas is also known generally as Centre Core.

The Pivot (TT2982). A dedicated innovation space for student entrepreneurial activity. It’s part of the Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Pride Lounge (AN1717). A dedicated space for members of the LBGTQ+ community and allies to meet and socialize.

The RAC or Cullen Residence Activity Centre, building on the west side of campus, off 36 Avenue South. Located in the main building in the Cullen on-campus housing complex.

Siberian Tiger (main floor Cousins Building). A gift from the Silverspur Wildlife Ranch in St. Paul, Alta., a complete mounted skeleton and pelt is on display, and it’s super cool and huge. You may never look at your domesticated house cat the same way again.

Soil Monoliths (hallway, third floor, Cousins Building). A collection of 110 soil monoliths (vertical cross-sections of soil about one-metre long). Many of the soil monoliths were collected from southern Alberta, but some in the collections are from elsewhere in the province, B.C., Saskatchewan and the Yukon. The collection was created in the 1950s and 1960s and was previously located at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre.

The Solarium (CE1340E). A space for student workshops at the back of the Learning Café and Accessibility Services in the Learning Commons.

SPHERE Labs (TE2211, TE2212, TE2214). SPHERE stands for simulated Patient Health Environment for Research and Education. They look like hospital rooms with human patient simulators so students in our health programs can put theory into practice in realistic settings.

Testing Services (AN1602). Provides testing services for Lethbridge College students (such as make-up exams) and testing required by individuals, groups and professional associations in the community.

30th Avenue Residence, along the east side of campus off 30 Avenue South. On-campus housing in four-bedroom townhouses. The complex includes the 30th Avenue Residence Hall, which serves as a student activity centre and can accommodate group meetings for employees outside of the academic year.

TIFF Kiosk (first floor main hallway of the Trades, Technologies and Innovation Facility). A booth in the main hallway of TTIF, which can be used for information sharing with students in the Trades area.

Val Matteotti Gymnasium (PE1403, PE1404 and PE1405). The gym is the showcase of the Physical Education Building. It’s actually three full-size gyms, referred to as Gym A, B or C, that can be opened up and used as one very large space with seating for up to 2,000.

Wellness Centre (CE1380). The on-campus centre where physicians, nurses and counselling services and first-aid are available.
