Visitors to Whoop-Up Days are immersing themselves in a whimsical train excursion thanks to the work of two Lethbridge College Multimedia Production students. The projection mapping performance, created by Denise Camille Serrano and Aaren Agaton, is on display all week at La Galleria, a curated creative space for local artists in the Main Pavilion of Lethbridge and District Exhibition.

Second-year Lethbridge College Plumbing apprentice Joshua Mandin needed a little convincing from his uncle, a Carpentry instructor, to try competing for the first time in the Skills Canada Alberta competition in Edmonton in May. “My uncle said it was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss and an experience I’d carry all my life,” Mandin says. So, he signed up – and ended up winning gold medals at both the provincial and national competitions.

Citing her daughter as her inspiration, mature student Lana Handsaeme is set to graduate from Lethbridge College’s Agriculture Sciences program with a major in agronomy.

Second-year Multimedia Production (MMP) student Hayden Mountain Horse is using her incredible artistic skills to bring conceptual characters to life - a practicum assignment she calls “a perfect fit.” Mountain Horse has been working with Bej’a Christmas, founder and CEO of Anemoia Studios - a production house and talent agency based in Oakland, Calif. Its focus is to promote people of colour and other marginalized communities in the entertainment industry.

People may be desensitized to the sight of litter on a riverbank or even the heaps of garbage bags collected during Lethbridge’s annual Coulee Cleanup. But a group of Lethbridge College students and their instructor are attempting to engage the public by telling the story of what that litter means to the environment.

Lethbridge College’s 64th convocation will include a first: the naming of a valedictorian. College leaders selected Business Administration student Ashley Pierson, a graduate of Cardston High School, to fill the role at this year’s convocation ceremonies.
