Architectural Animation technologist communicate spatial ideas and basic construction visualization techniques to a variety of industries in the world of architecture, interior design and digital environments within virtual worlds.
You will become a necessary and creative asset to any residential, hospitality, institution, retail or landscape project, assisting clients and architects with code-compliant virtual space creation and extended reality 3 and 4 dimensional experiences.
Our unique, two-year diploma program will give you specialized production knowledge and visual communication skills needed to succeed in the world of architecture. You’ll work on projects that simulate real world design problems and gain professional experience in both commercial and residential architectural design communication. By the time you graduate, you’ll be able to demonstrate your digital rendering and animation skills, and you’ll know how to contribute to community-based design projects.

A blended course is intentionally designed to include continuum of both face to face/on-campus and online delivery. This includes both synchronous (in real-time on a set schedule) and asynchronous learning strategies (learning that does not occur at the same time or same place). Communication, instruction and assessment components of a blended course provide consistent information but go further by enhancing and supplementing each other. Students may complete some of their lessons online and may also be required to come to campus.
Learning does not occur at the same time or same place. Instructor provides materials including online readings, recorded lectures or presentations, posted lecture notes, video content, assignments and exams for online completion. Students access the course materials within a flexible timeframe prescribed by the instructor.
Learning happens in real time. Student and instructors interact and engage with each other in a specific virtual space, through a specific online medium, at a specific time. This can include video conferencing, live chatting, and live-streaming lectures.

No Practicum in Term 1
New students are accepted into the Architectural Animation Technology program for the Fall (September) term.
General admission requirements
All applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Lethbridge College programs, as indicated in the Admission section of this calendar.
In addition to meeting the general admission requirements indicated in the Admission section of this calendar, applicants to this program must also satisfy the following specific course requirements (or equivalencies):
- Grade 12 math (equivalent to Alberta’s Math 30-2 or a higher level math)
Practicum experience requirements
There is a required practicum component to this program. The College dictates the legal terms and conditions governing the practicum experience.
Mobile learning program
This is a Mobile Learning Program that requires students to purchase a mobile device from Lethbridge College complete with program specific software. Go to www.lethbridgecollege.ca/mobilelearning for additional information.
Prior learning assessment (PLA)
If you have experience working in this field of study, you may be eligible for prior learning assessment.
Applicants who lack the required academic admission requirements can apply to the Academic Upgrading program to upgrade their academic skills.

- Due to Covid19 and the restrictions that may be imposed regarding lab access, these programs require a computer (buy your own) for the 2020-2021 year.Architechtural Animation and Virtural Reality students should buy/own a gaming computer that we allowed $2400 to purchase.
- Costs for supplies may vary considerably depending on what students already have or where they purchased their supplies; cost provided is on the moderately high end.
- Students in this program are required to purchase a mobile learning device from the college. Computer cost is approximately $1,450.00 plus a $100.00 access fee. In the second year of the program, only the access is charged. These costs are subject to change. Check your admissions letter for more details or contact your program and check the Mobile Learning page.
- Students will be charged a medical/dental benefit fee unless they opt out by demonstrating alternative coverage prior to the end of the first week of class.fees, books and supplies is the same for all students.
- Tuition for international students is $12,944 for Year 1 and $16,115 for Year 2. The cost of additional fees, books and supplies is the same for all students.

Our new Trades, Technologies and Innovation Facility positions Lethbridge College as the institution for trades training in southern Alberta by bringing together students, faculty and industry to create a vibrant, responsive learning environment.
The facility is the single most important capital investment for trades and technologies in southern Alberta in over 50 years. It’s also the largest construction project in the college’s history. It has increased our capacity to train the next generation of skilled tradespeople, engineers and interior designers. And it’s revolutionized our curriculum, bringing together students, faculty and industry partners in a modern, environmentally-sensitive space that features:
- modern labs, apprentice shops, tool rooms, classrooms, meeting rooms and offices
- more than 200 solar tubes to provide natural light to the workshops and classrooms and to reduce emergency costs (cool fact: the electric lights in the building are programmed to dim or increase based on how much light is coming in naturally)
- 60 welding booths set up for students to learn five different welding processes
- rooms housing wind turbine components to train on
- a design studio and extensive materials library
- a multi-purpose lab that provides students with learning opportunities for fluid mechanics and surveying applications
- a dedicated 3D printing room
- collaborative spaces to incubate the great ideas of tomorrow

All four programs in the School of Media and Design hold year-end events to provide that very opportunity. Events can vary between programs, but one thing is certain: our students’ portfolios are shared with their peers, their instructors, the industry and the community.
Whether it’s showing off unique and award-winning fashion pieces, a captivating magazine article, a redesigned interior space (with the help of virtual reality) or an innovative Android app, our students’ creativity is showcased to the campus community and the industry.
Winners of the 2019 Ashcroft Design Challenge announced
Designer Jessica Banman and animator/virtual reality creator Teunieke Anker were announced as winners during this year's surRENDER event.
Banman and Anker’s winning design, The Daphne, was selected for its retro-modern look that met with Ashcroft standards as a unique use of space that will meet market demand. The proceeds from the sale of the home will be donated back to the college.
