Lethbridge College welcomes new students this weekend

Lethbridge College wants to ensure new students are ready to hit the ground running when classes begin next week. So, beginning Sunday, those new to Lethbridge College have three full days of New Student Orientation options to get them ready for the upcoming academic year.

Continuing its role as a leader in emerging technologies, Lethbridge College is pleased to announce its first President’s Applied Research Chair in Virtual and Augmented Reality. Mike McCready has been appointed to the role and will work to connect industry with the limitless potential of VR and AR technology.

Virtual training for real life: research project brings VR to justice studies

A police officer knocks on a door and immediately has an angry person screaming in their face – how do they react? A veteran officer can draw on experience to resolve the situation, but the interaction can cause inexperienced officers to freeze. A new internal research project at Lethbridge College will test whether virtual reality can better prepare justice and corrections students for those types of face-to-face interactions.

Lethbridge College, potato growers partner on irrigation study

A new study will dig deep into the soil to determine how watering and irrigation methods affect southern Alberta’s potato crops. The four-year research project is a partnership between Lethbridge College’s Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Potato Growers of Alberta. It is made possible through a grant from the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

Lethbridge College chosen for diversity and inclusion pilot project

Lethbridge College is making a commitment to identifying and improving its equity, diversity and inclusion on campus. The college is one of just 17 Canadian post-secondary institutions chosen for the Dimensions pilot program, a national initiative designed to foster transformational change within research bodies and post-secondary institutions.

Lethbridge College will have new leaders in three of its academic centres for the 2019-20 academic year. Dr. Kevin Smith joins Lethbridge College, while long-time employees Dr. Terry Kowalchuk and Sheldon Anderson move into new roles.

Leeroy Stagger to headline Coulee Fest

Lethbridge College’s third annual Coulee Fest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, and will be headlined by a performance from internationally-renowned singer-songwriter Leeroy Stagger. Stagger will cap off a day of free live music, family fun areas, food trucks, beer gardens, interactive program showcase areas and more.

A long-time assistant coach and Kodiaks alumnus will take on elevated responsibilities with Lethbridge College’s soccer and futsal teams. Mark Pries will join Sean Carey as co-head coaches of both the men’s and women’s Kodiaks teams for the 2019-20 seasons.

Create a new video game from scratch in just 48 hours. That is the task presented to participants of Alberta Game Jam, Alberta’s first province-wide hackathon-style event for game developers. From professional designers to amateur hobbyists, everyone is welcome to take part in the event that runs from Aug. 23 to 25. Lethbridge College will be the southern Alberta host site.
