Lethbridge College is celebrating Black History Month in February with an array of cultural activities and learning opportunities for everyone on campus. Organized by a committee of employees, students and the Lethbridge College Students’ Association (LCSA), events will highlight the diversity of the Black community at Lethbridge College and celebrate the history and achievements of Black Canadians while promoting equity, diversity and inclusion across the institution.

Two dozen southern Alberta high school students are getting a better understanding of the trades – as well as potential future careers – by participating in Lethbridge College’s Introduction to the Trades Dual Credit Pathway Program.

Lethbridge College continues to forge its reputation as one of Canada’s top research colleges, ranking 16^th in the annual Research Infosource ranking of Canada’s top 50 research colleges. The 16^th place ranking is Lethbridge College’s highest ever appearance in the rankings and the first time the college has cracked the top 20.

Lethbridge College’s on-site research capabilities received a major boost with more than $2 million in federal funding announced today in Lethbridge. The funding from PrairiesCan will allow the college to complete development of its new the Agriculture Research Innovation Facility and to hire skilled personnel to operate its state-of-the-art agriculture research laboratory.

Southern Alberta’s agriculture community will gather next week for the Irrigated Crop Production Update, a one-day conference focused on all things irrigation.

The financial pressure on Mandy Mabe and her family is a bit lighter these days. The second-year Bachelor of Nursing student at Lethbridge College was recently chosen as one of 20 recipients of the Colleges and Institutes Canada Paul and Gerri Charette Bursary Program.

Lethbridge College will enjoy consistency at the head of its Board of Governors table, as Board Chair Michael Marcotte has been reappointed to a three-year term by the Government of Alberta. Marcotte initially joined the college’s board as chair in September 2019.

Lethbridge College will soon be offering an Indigenous Policing (Niitsitapi Inakiikawaiks) microcredential program. The suite of microcredentials – short-term, flexible learning programs designed for re-skilling or upskilling – will provide culturally appropriate education to Indigenous police services as they work to address the needs of their communities. Courses will be delivered online for asynchronous self-paced learning and will be available to current officers, cadets and – where appropriate – Lethbridge College School of Justice students.

Taking a closer look at statistics within the justice realm is the focus of one of a handful of internally funded research projects taking place at Lethbridge College this academic year thanks to grants awarded by the Centre for Applied Research, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CARIE).  

The School of Environmental Sciences at Lethbridge College is eager to study more about the migratory flightpaths of animals as a relatively new collaborator on the Motus Wildlife Tracking System. A program of Birds Canada, Motus is an international collaborative research network that uses telemetry – the automatic measurement and wireless transmission of data from remote sources – to facilitate research and education on the ecology and conservation of migratory animals. The system can track numerous species of birds, bats and even insects like dragonflies.
