The Lethbridge YWCA has named Dr. Tracy Edwards, president and CEO of Lethbridge College, as its 2010 YWCA Woman of Distinction for Community Commitment.

The award was announced Feb. 9. The YWCA also honoured Nadine Chandler in the Social Advocate category, Bonnie Lee in the Spirit of Women category, and Mallory Kristjanson as its Young Woman of Distinction in the Turning Point category.

These awards recognize outstanding women who live and work in southern Alberta; women who have been trailblazers, entrepreneurs, innovators, social advocates and volunteers.

Edwards nomination for the award was widely supported, as the following testimonials indicate:

Tracy is a visionary, a strategist and a role model. Tracy gives much of her life for the betterment of others including Lethbridge College and the Lethbridge community. She has the ability to inspire others to be the best they can be. Dr. Edwards makes a difference, she cares, she is honourable and a trusted leader.  Dr. Edwards has a strong vision of the future. She is a mentor and advocate for women in business by providing a wide range of support and encouragement. She listens, communicates and motivates. She has been involved in developing and implementing mentorship circles and workshops and creates opportunities for education, support and growth to all in her path. The 2010 Women of Distinction Awards ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. March 19  at the Lethbridge Lodge.
