Making a Difference

LC Golf Tourney 2017-2.jpg Lethbridge’s longest-running charity golf event returns to the links later this month with a new presenting sponsor. Galko Homes Master Builder is throwing its support behind the tournament that raises funds for student awards.

As part of a three-year partnership, Galko’s involvement will help create a new student award named in honour of Chloe Galts, who founded Galko Homes along with her husband Marvin and his siblings. The company remains family-owned to this day.

“Lethbridge has been our home since 1972, so we take great pride in supporting the amazing community that has supported us for so many years,” says Bruce Galts, President of Galko Homes. “As part of that, we are truly looking forward to partnering with the college as the presenting sponsor for its 35th annual golf tournament this summer. We are also excited to recognize and honor Chloe Galts through a new student award created in her name. We know that she too would have been pleased with opportunity to support students.”

The 35th annual Lethbridge College golf tournament, presented by Galko Homes Master Builder, will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Lethbridge Country Club. The event aligns closely with the Kodiaks Athletics program and will feature Kodiaks student-athletes lending a hand around the course.

LC Golf Tourney 2017-1.jpg “Having our student-athletes out on the course is one of the best parts of the day,” says Dr. Paula Burns, Lethbridge College President and CEO. “It allows golfers and sponsors to meet some of the students they are supporting by participating in the tournament. It’s thanks to businesses like Galko that we can provide a boost to these students as they take part in their educational journey.”

Galko Homes has been part of the southern Alberta community since 1972 and employs many Lethbridge College alumni. The company is a long-time supporter of Lethbridge College, including involvement in the College Home project, and it is also a long-running sponsor of the golf tournament.

The tournament is one of southern Alberta’s most popular charity golf events, and it will once again feature plenty of giveaways, contests and food and drink samples on the course. The event raised a record $63,824 in 2017, including a $25,000 gift from Cox Financial in celebration of the college’s 60th anniversary. The tournament has raised more than $895,000 over its 34-year history.

The event is nearly sold out, but a limited number of golfing spots still remain. There are also a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available.
