Kodiaks-WSOC.jpg The Lethbridge College Kodiaks are set to hit the court, pitch, track and trail more than 100 times this upcoming season. The Kodiaks 2018-19 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) schedule is now set and it promises to be an exciting season of action.

“Last season, across the board, our teams were as consistently competitive as I’ve seen them and I expect this year to be even better,” says Todd Caughlin, manager of Kodiaks Athletics. “With the schedule finalized, the work now begins. We’re preparing our student-athletes for the road ahead, as well as working with our game day and promotions staff to create exciting opportunities for our fans. I truly believe this will be a season to remember for Kodiaks Athletics.”

The ACAC regular season kicks off for the Kodiaks as the women’s and men’s soccer teams host SAIT on Saturday, Sept. 8. The final regular season action will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23 as the basketball teams visit Olds College.

Other highlights of the schedule include:

  • Soccer – This season the ACAC season expands from 10 games to 12. The Kodiaks open at home against SAIT on Saturday, Sept. 8. It will be a fun early season test as the Trojans finished first in the south division on both the men’s and women’s sides last season.
     
  • Cross country – The Kodiaks will host a Grand Prix race for the first time since 2015 on Sept. 22 at Nicholas Sheran Park.
     
  • Volleyball – The 24 game regular seasons begin on the road on Oct. 12, with the Kodiaks home openers on Saturday, Oct. 19 against SAIT. The Trojans are the defending ACAC men’s champions. The women host the defending south division champions from Briercrest on Nov. 2 and 3. The Kodiaks will also play a trio of Thursday night games this season, on Nov. 10, Jan. 10 and Jan. 31.
     
  • Basketball – Kodiaks basketball teams will play 21 regular season games, beginning at home on Saturday, Oct. 13, against SAIT. The Trojans are the defending ACAC men’s champions, while the Kodiaks will host the women’s champs from St. Mary’s for the first time on Saturday, Jan. 12.
     
  • Make Some Noise for Mental Health – The Kodiaks will once again take part in this annual ACAC initiative during volleyball games on Thursday, Jan. 31, and basketball games on Saturday, Feb. 2.
     
  • Junior and senior high school appreciation night – High school students will once again be invited to take in Kodiaks games for free while enjoying a free barbeque and the chance to win prizes. Volleyball night takes place on Friday, Nov. 7 with the basketball night on Friday, Feb. 15.


As well, the first indoor track grand prix will take place on Jan. 26 in Edmonton, hosted by MacEwan University, and the futsal season will begin with tune-up tournaments in early 2018 before the ACAC championships from March 15 to 17.

The Kodiaks season will officially wrap-up with the annual KODI Awards on Thursday, April 11.
