A pick-me-up for our hard-working students
The Lethbridge College Learning Café and Buchanan Library will hold a Long Night Against Procrastination, to give a lift to students who are feeling stressed out at this point in the term. Students can visit the Learning Commons (CE1324) for stress management tips, research and writing support, wellness information, snacks provided by the organizers and pizza provided by the Lethbridge College Students’ Association (LCSA). It’s a tough time of year for many people as sunlight hours shorten and academic pressures build. This could be a story about how to help students of all kinds manage work and school. The event also offers visuals of activities including Doggy De-stress (dogs are a great stress reliever); mini-massages offered by Massage Therapy students; craft sessions; stretch breaks; and tea and conversation with Indigenous Elders.

Taste for yourselves what our Culinary students have been learning
Sometimes the proof of learning really is in the pudding. OK, we can’t guarantee there will be pudding on the menu. Students in Lethbridge College’s Culinary Careers diploma program will be serving evening dining this week and next as part of their ongoing education in not only the art of cooking but the business of running the Garden Court restaurant. Evening dining is a four-course meal or you can order individual items from the chef’s menu. Diners need to reserve by calling 403-320-3230 or by visiting the dining room’s Facebook page. Patrons get a great meal and the satisfaction of knowing they supported our students in pursuing careers in culinary.

LCSA helps students get a jump on the day
Lethbridge College Students’ Association will be serving 300 free breakfasts starting at 10:30 a.m. until the food’s all gone. The breakfast will be held in the Cave as part of a viewing party as the Kodiaks men’s soccer team plays a national quarterfinal game against Vancouver Island University at the CCAA national championships in Oshawa, Ont. Wellness Wednesdays are just one way the LCSA supports its members and their health. The food goes fast if you’re interested in a photo.

Learn how to Be Ready to Save Lives
Lethbridge College welcomes our partners from Canadian Blood Services to Centre Core for an information booth about blood donation. We invite all students, staff and alumni to stop in to learn about how to unleash their lifesaving, inner superhero by donating blood. You can find out your blood type, too. This is the college’s 12th annual Blood Drive, an effort that has earned the college national recognition. You can have your blood donations this month and throughout the year count toward Lethbridge College’s drive by registering online using Partner ID number LETH010182. Let’s Be Ready to Save Lives. Look for an advisory from Canadian Blood Services about a morning media availability with Canadian Blood Services reps and blood donors available for comment.

Civil Engineering Technology receives national accreditation
Lethbridge College’s Civil Engineering Technology program is receiving a national accreditation. Media are invited to attend as a representative of Technology Accreditation Canada will present the faculty at Lethbridge College with a certificate recognizing national program accreditation in the Garden Court restaurant. Accreditation provides students with the confidence that the skills and knowledge learned during their time in the program are valued by employers. The college’s Geomatics Engineering Technology and Engineering Design and Drafting Technology programs have already received accreditation from TAC earlier this year, meaning the college’s entire School of Engineering Technologies is now accredited.

Expert will offer advice on managing credit
November is Financial Literacy Month. Lethbridge College is providing a series of workshops for students and staff who need help with budgeting and managing credit. Today, an expert from the Credit Counselling Society of Canada will be on campus offering two free workshops. The first, 11 a.m. to noon, is on managing credit. The second from 1 to 2 p.m. focuses on how to plan your spending. Not sure if financial literacy is a timely or relevant topic? According to Credit Canada, the average Canadian household debt is at near record high levels with the average Canadian owing close to $1.78 for every dollar earned. To put that into perspective, in 1990 Canadians owed 90 cents for every dollar earned. To talk to the Credit Counselling Society expert, please contact us. He’s available over the noon hour between sessions.

LC welcomes more than 300 potential students to campus
Lethbridge College will hold its Fall Open House for anyone interested in attending the college. More than 300 people have preregistered for the event, to visit campus and meet faculty members from programs of interest. Individuals who apply on the spot for academic programs for the 2020 year can save the $90 application fee. High school students and high school graduates who register and attend Open House will be entered into a draw for a $1,500 tuition credit. More information and the registration link can be found online. The best opportunity for photos or video would be from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Flu clinic in Centre Core
The campus will be buzzing with visitors attending the fall open house event, but let’s hope it’s also not buzzing with the influenza bug. There’s a free flu vaccination clinic in Centre Core to help you stay healthy this winter. Bring your Alberta Health Care card. This is the last of the free flu clinics being offered by Wellness Services. If you missed out, most pharmacies are also offering this service, in addition to clinics run by Alberta Health Services.

Kodiaks volleyball play host to Medicine Hat
Lethbridge College Kodiaks volleyball teams are in action at home against their rivals to the east, Medicine Hat Rattlers. You can catch the women’s game starting at 6 p.m. in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The men’s team are in action at 8 p.m. Admission is free to students with their college identification, $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, youth and LC alumni, and $4 to college staff and students with University of Lethbridge ID cards.
