Lethbridge College unveils a new friendship bench

Please join Lethbridge College and the Centre for Justice and Human Services in welcoming the Lucas Fiorella Friendship Bench, a Canadian registered not-for profit, to campus. Lucas Fiorella was a university student in Ontario when he died by suicide after suffering in silence from depression. His family created the non-profit organization to continue Lucas’s legacy of caring by distributing yellow benches as a place where people who find it difficult to ask for help can connect with others. Sam Fiorella, Lucas’s father, will be on campus to share his story during a brief ceremony in Founders’ Square in the Andrews Building. The bench will be installed in the 1700 wing of Andrews. The friendship bench is bright yellow because #yellowisforhello. This event is part of the college’s Thrive Week, with special events and workshops devoted to wellness.

In this 10th anniversary campaign, Bell will contribute five cents for every applicable text, call, tweet, social media video view and use of Bell’s Facebook frame or Snapchat filter. Since 2010, Bell has raised more than $100 million for mental health programs. Lethbridge College is one of 227 post-secondary institutions across Canada promoting student mental health with Bell’s help.
