While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused Lethbridge College to cancel its Convocation ceremony, the college is making sure its convocates are properly celebrated. The college is bringing the excitement of Convocation to convocates in the comfort of their own homes.
In lieu of the Convocation ceremony that was to be held on Friday at the Enmax Centre, Lethbridge College instead has an all-day celebration planned for its social media channels. As well, graduates will receive a special Convocation package in May that will include a save-the-date card to attend the college’s 2021 Convocation.
“Convocation is one of our campus’s most important days, and we know how disappointing it is for our students who are not able to cross the stage on Friday,” says Dr. Paula Burns, Lethbridge College President and CEO. “But we want these students who have worked so hard to know that they are not forgotten. We are incredibly proud of their successes and they deserve to be celebrated.”
On Friday, students can check out the college’s Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts for a series of congratulations and surprises that will help to bring the excitement of Convocation right to them. They should also keep an eye out throughout the week for opportunities to get a special custom-designed digital keepsake.
In May, the college’s graduates will receive a Convocation package that includes their parchment, a Convocation program, a congratulations card and a special alumni pin. It will also include the save-the-date card to participate in the 2021 Convocation ceremony.
“We know that crossing the stage in front of the friends, family and faculty who have supported their journeys is a very meaningful milestone for many students,” says Marko Hilgersom, Lethbridge College Registrar. “We want to ensure that our graduates still have that opportunity as soon as it is safe to do so, and we look forward to welcoming them back to celebrate next year.”
Friday’s Convocation celebrations can be found on social media, as well as on the Lethbridge College website.
