The award winners were announced by Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month online this week. The awards recognize efforts to continually improve in four areas: healthy lifestyles; mental health and workplace culture; physical environment; and corporate social responsibility. Lethbridge College is one of 12 recipients this year. Others include the Victoria Airport Authority and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Health and wellness is a priority at Lethbridge College, its importance reflected in the institution’s overarching goals. Efforts to support the health and well-being of our community come from across campus whether through direct service found in our Wellness Centre; ongoing safety promotion by our Occupational Health and Safety Team; development opportunities championed by our Human Resources team; or through efforts by our academic centres to support students and employees coping with all the usual pressures of teaching and learning against a backdrop of a global pandemic.

Surveys of employees and students in the early weeks of the pandemic and follow-up surveys this fall are part of an institutional commitment to understand the community’s needs and to respond with solutions and supports.

The award nomination emphasized the work across campus to ensure a safe environment for all, a need heightened by COVID-19. With physical safety in mind, the college has continued to create opportunities for connection using technology – whether small group activities such as art sessions, or the large-scale celebration of our Indigenous community during Stone Pipe Days.

Lethbridge College will be sent a certificate of this award and will be listed on Canada's Healthy Workplace Month website as a 2020 award recipient.
