Campus News

Our Lethbridge College community is always eager to help and support students, each other and the broader community. But knowing we need to keep a safe physical distance even from family and friends, what’s a Good Samaritan to do?

Actually, there’s a lot you can do. Here are a few ideas: helping hands.png

  • Help distribute postcards. The Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG) is coordinating and overseeing this campaign, with support from Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Alberta South Region. It is recognized that one of the challenges during physical distancing is keeping in contact and getting information topeople who do not use the internet. You can email [email protected] to sign up for a route and copies of the postcard can be provided or individuals can download them from the City website at lethbridge.ca/covidsupport.
  • Volunteer Lethbridge, with support from CMHA, Alberta South Region is coordinating a campaign. Verified volunteer community members are paired with lonely community members to receive a friendly wellness check phone call on a regular basis. Volunteers are screened for criminal record checks and provided with basic training as well as information on resources and referrals to appropriate organizations, when needed. Community members need only to connect with Volunteer Lethbridge to request a Wellness check phone call or to volunteer to call isolated community members at Helping Hands or 403-332-4320.
  • Last week the province introduced the Bits and Pieces Program for anyone who can contribute a product or service required at this time. As a community of makers and doers who teach a next generation of makers and doers, this program might be of interest to you. There's a form to submit offers of products or services.
  • Make an appointment to donate blood. If you’re not sure if you’re eligible or have recently travelled outside of Canada, please call 1-888-2-DONATE for information. Visit the Canadian Blood Services COVID-19 page for information on what measures are being taken to protect donors. Be part of the Lethbridge College Partner for Life team. Register online using Partner ID number LETH010182.

And don’t forget by staying at home, practicing social distancing and being meticulous about your hand hygiene, you are doing your part to help us all through this crisis.
