Alumni

Lethbridge College is offering its alumni a sweet start to the holiday season. The first Alumni Holiday Bakeoff is now underway – and it is free for all alumni to get involved.

The college’s Alumni Engagement office has 200 free Kodiak Coke Cake baking kits available. Each kit features pre-measured and ready-to-mix ingredients and an easy, step-by-step recipe. Alumni can bake the cake in their own home and then decorate it with festive cheer, and then can submit a photo for a publicly judged competition, with a great prize pack going to the winner.

“We want our alumni to know we are thinking of them this holiday season, so this is a way to get everyone involved in a fun and safe activity,” says Stephanie Savage, Alumni Engagement coordinator. “Particularly in this year, where we’ve had to celebrate so many moments apart, this is a fun activity to help unite us. I’m excited to see the creativity of our alumni and to share all the submissions in the lead-up to the holiday break.”

The cake recipe, which is sweetened by the addition of Coca-Cola, was developed by Chef Amanda Kawchuk, an instructor in (and graduate) of the college’s School of Culinary Arts.

Getting involved is easy. College alumni can sign-up for a free kit online and can then pick it up by driving through the college’s front loop between 4 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 3 or 4. Step-by-step baking instructions are included; participants need to provide just eggs and oil to complete the recipe.

Once baked and decorated, photos of the cakes can be submitted up until Dec. 15 by emailing the college’s Alumni Engagement department. Submitted photos will be posted on the Alumni Engagement Facebook page and voting will take place from Dec. 16 to 21. The winner, announced on Dec. 23, will receive a $25 Amazon gift card, a $20 Tim Hortons gift card and a selection of Lethbridge College and Coca-Cola swag.

The Alumni Holiday Bakeoff is sponsored by Coca-Cola, whose long-time support of Lethbridge College has included contributing to Alumni Engagement, the School of Culinary Arts, Kodiaks Athletics, the Kodiak House residence project and student awards.
