11th annual blood drive begins

Lethbridge College wants you to be ready to save lives by supporting our 11th annual blood drive with Canadian Blood Services. As a Partner for Life, the college is committed to raising awareness about the need for blood donations and new donors. The need never stop. Through the month of November, we encourage employees, students, alumni and community members to donate blood in Lethbridge College’s name. To book an appointment, visit www.blood.ca, download the Giveblood app or call 1-888-2-DONATE. To ensure your donation counts toward Lethbridge College’s pledge of 500 units this year, please go to the Canadian Blood Services webpage and register your name online along with the college’s Partner ID number — LETH010182. Throughout the month, the college Food Court will be serving iron-rich meals daily to support the effort, and Canadian Blood Services will be in Centre Core three times this month giving people a chance to learn their blood type and learn more about donation.

Got used books? We’ve got a use for them

Faculty from the Centre of Health and Wellness could use donations of gently read fiction and non-fiction books for an early December book sale. Please identify books as “Book Sale Donation” and drop them off at the Buchanan Library by Dec. 3. The sale details are still being finalized, but the money raised will go to the Ron MacDonald Emergency Fund, named in honour of an instructor who died in 2003 who was known for always being there for students who were struggling. The fund is intended to help students at high risk of dropping out due to financial pressures. Since 2004, the emergency fund has awarded just over $80,000 to students in need, giving them continued access to education. Your used books will help this fund carry on this important work.
