LC-Convocation.jpg Lethbridge College celebrates the end of another successful academic year at its Convocation ceremony on Friday. The 62nd Convocation ceremony begins at 1 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.

 

More than 1,600 convocates will receive degrees, diplomas or certificates from Lethbridge College this year. A total of 755 of those students are expected to cross the stage on Friday. The ceremony will also feature the awarding of an honorary degree to alumnus Troy Reeb, the Executive Vice President, Broadcast Networks for Corus Entertainment.

 

The Convocation ceremony is just one of many Lethbridge College events taking place this week in conjunction with the end of the 2018-19 academic year.

Indigenous Honour Night

 

5 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 – Garden Court Restaurant

 

This event gives Indigenous convocates the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments with fellow classmates, family members and community members. As students embark on their pursuit of further academic and career goals, this evening also provides an opportunity for convocates to express thanks to their families as well as the services and agencies that have assisted in their educational journey.

surRENDER: Interior Design Technology Showcase

 

4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 – Innovation Hub (accessible through the Garden Court entrance)

 

Lethbridge College’s Interior Design Technology students will present a showcase of their work during surRENDER. Drop in to meet students, instructors and industry professionals and to experience the creative uses of virtual reality in interior design. Appetizers will be served, and a silent auction is planned to support student awards. Admission is $10 and tickets are available online. The winner of the Ashcroft Design Challenge will also be announced. surRENDER is an excellent chance for potential students to learn more about the newly-announced Architectural Animation Technology program.

Merging Realities

 

8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 25 – Instructional Building Theatre

 

Lethbridge College and the VR/AR Association welcome Centennial College in Toronto aboard as a new partner in Merging Realities, a conference on virtual and augmented reality held in VR.  This year’s conference is free for anyone attending at Lethbridge College or online, and will explore education, training and collaboration using virtual and augmented reality technologies. People participating in the conference can do so from Lethbridge College or Centennial College campuses, or they can join via computer or VR from around the world. This year’s event starts at 8:30 a.m. and closing remarks are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. A trade show on our campus will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The conference keynote speaker will be Alan Smithson, CEO and co-founder of MetaVRse, North America’s leading VR/AR consulting and product development firm.

Honouring Excellence

Lethbridge College celebrates its outstanding alumni at its Honouring Excellence evening. This year’s guests of honour are Honorary Degree recipient Troy Reeb (Communication Arts — Broadcast Journalism 1988); Distinguished Alumnus recipient Rick Lewchuk (Communication Arts — Broadcast Journalism 1979); Career Virtuoso recipient Dr. Sandra Davidson (Nursing diploma 1994); Community Leader recipient Jason VandenHoek (Business Administration 1999); and Rising Star recipient Quinn Ohler (Communication Arts — Broadcast Journalism 2009).

The biggest day of Lethbridge College’s year is Convocation, when we celebrate our students for completing their certificate, diploma or degree programs and acknowledge our Honorary Degree recipient in a ceremony at the Enmax Centre. Please join us for this celebratory event.

Continuum Fashion Show and market

 

6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 27 – Innovation Hub (accessible through the Garden Court entrance)

 

Designs by alumni and soon-to-be graduating students of the Lethbridge College Fashion Design and Sustainable Production program will be showcased at Continuum, a fashion show and market. Watch for Lethbridge College faculty and staff members to be walking the runway. Tickets are $20 and available at the Lethbridge College Students’ Association office and online.
