Lethbridge College's Office of Alumni Relations has chosen the recipients of its 2010 Distinguished Alumni Awards.

Colin Ward, a 1995 graduate of Civil Engineering Technology, was chosen as Distinguished Alumnus. Manager of Ward Bros. Construction, Ward was chosen for his strong sense of dedication to his community, career and Lethbridge College as displayed through his professional and personal involvement. He has overseen major components of the Lethbridge landscape, including the renovations to the Cousins Science Centre, and has sponsored several charitable causes, such as the St. Michael's Health Centre, Interfaith Food Bank and the school breakfast program in both city school divisions. He provides college scholarships, supports and sponsors campus events and serves as vice-chair of the foundation board.

The award for Community Leader goes to Kirk Hofman, a 1978 graduate of Business Administration. As Nobleford's village administrator, Hofman was chosen for his contributions to politics, recreation and economic diversity in his community. A tireless community activist, he has passionately promoted initiatives geared to improving the quality of life for residents of his community.

Margaret (Maggie) Olson, a 1973 graduate of Registered Nursing, takes the Career Virtuoso award. Olson (nee: Hayden) was chosen for her life-long contributions to the nursing profession, and the compassion she has shown those in her care at Pincher Creek Hospital. Olson has served in almost every aspect of nursing and is considered mentor to those under her supervision.

Following his graduation of the General Studies program in 2003, Matthew Berrigan obtained an education degree and his rise as a teacher has been meteoric, making him the winner of the Rising Star award.  Mathew was named best new teacher by the Foothills School Division for his work in Cayley and is now a lead teacher in Turner Valley. The success of his teaching is reflected in his student achievement results.

The four recipients will be honoured at the annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner, April 16 in the D.A. Electric Barn. Tickets, at $65, are available from the Office of Alumni Relations.  For ticket inquiries, please contact Sandra Dufresne at 403-329-7220.
