Date(s) and Time(s)

You’re invited to celebrate the pride, history and knowledge of our First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures at Lethbridge College’s 2018 Indigenous Celebration Day. Join us for both traditional and contemporary entertainment, including powwow drumming and dancing performances, Métis jigging, a hand drum contest as well as arts, crafts and community exhibits.

Special this year: the unveiling of Lethbridge College’s Ohkotoki’aahkkoiyiiniimaan Showcase

Lethbridge College is located on the traditional land of the Blackfoot people. Guided by our Blackfoot Kaahsinnooniiks (Grandparents) and community members, we are moving together respectfully to a greater knowledge and understanding of Blackfoot ways of knowing.

In October 2017, Lethbridge College was given the Blackfoot name Ohkotoki’aahkoiyiiniimaan (Stone Pipe). In the spirit of continued knowledge, the college has created a dedicated showcase that will highlight the story, from past to present, of the Blackfoot people. The unveiling ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the campus’ Centre Core, then the festivities will follow in the Val Matteoti Gymnasium.
