Spiitawakasi (Tall Deer)

Manager – Indigenous Services

I come from the Piikani Nation located in southwestern Alberta.  I am very strong believer in the Blackfoot culture. My experiences serving the Indigenous community in various capacities have ranged from leadership to post-secondary education. I bring a very grounded perspective to the Indigenous Services team at Lethbridge College. Currently, I am serving as the Indigenous Student Support and Experience coordinator for Indigenous Services. I am married and have two children. I really enjoy watching hockey. I also enjoy going to powwows in the summertime and being out in nature. I can usually be found in the Niitsitapi Gathering Place or in my office when I am on campus.

Indigenous Coordinator – Centre of Applied Arts and Sciences

Oki. As part of Lethbridge College Indigenous Collective Team, welcome to the Indigenous Services home on the college website. I am a proud Siksikaitsitapiiaaki (Blackfoot woman); my maternal relations have me born and raised a member of the Blood Tribe/Kainai Nation with paternal relations in the Siksika Nation. In all I do, my husband and our three children are my center. I am alumna of both Lethbridge College (2004) and the University of Lethbridge (2009). Professionally, I have been with Lethbridge College since 2014, first with Indigenous Services and currently with the Centre of Applied Arts and Science (CAAS). My current role as Indigenous Coordinator of CAAS allows me to teach Indigenous Studies courses and dedicate thought to developing Indigenous content to be included in programs throughout the college. Stories are important and I believe from sharing and listening our stories we gain insight and knowledge that will become significant to you. Education is a prominent part of my story. Whether you are a new or continuing student, or member of the college’s alumni community, sometime down the road share with me the Lethbridge College story you carry with you.

Miisumikitsikaakii (Long Time Offering)

Indigenous Student Support /Events Coordinator – Indigenous Services

Oki! I am a proud Siksikaitsitapi and truly honored and excited to be part of the Lethbridge College community. I love to be outside enjoying my favorite activities; hiking, camping, bike riding, running, golfing, and horseback riding. I love all animals, especially elephants and want to retire one day working at an elephant sanctuary!

As the Indigenous Student Support & Events Coordinator, I am committed to ensuring our students have the academic, cultural and spiritual supports necessary for health and wellbeing. Post-secondary can come with many challenges and obstacles, and quite often an overwhelming experience as we learn to cross and balance western institutional settings while maintaining and honoring our Indigenous knowledge and traditions. I’m always available to listen, answer questions, provide guidance or simply to chat. I strongly believe that education can open many doors to countless opportunities. I am dedicated to making sure that the students at Lethbridge College find success.  Throughout the year I encourage you to pop into the Niitsitapi Gathering Place to meet other students, participate in cultural activities and connect with our Indigenous Services team.
