The Alumni Advisory Council represents over 30,000 alumni by advising the work of the Alumni Relations office. The council is a diverse 10- to 12-member group of Lethbridge College graduates. Each of our ambassadors are alumni who have had a great Lethbridge College experience and wish to give back to the institution. Our work is guided by our mandate, mission and vision.

Mandate

Utilizing a collective alumni voice, the Alumni Advisory Council works to further the goals of Lethbridge College. Members of the council are committed Lethbridge College alumni who serve as ambassadors to foster collaboration between alumni, the college and the community.

Mission

The council serves Lethbridge College by facilitating participation and involvement of alumni in the life of the college and by promoting the reputation and profile of the college and its alumni.

Vision

To foster an active and connected alumni community and contribute to the success of Lethbridge College.

Vision statements

Communication: The council values communication between its members, students, alumni and the community at large to enhance college awareness.

Collaboration: The council provides support for the college, its mission and its initiatives through cooperation and collaboration.

Recognition of excellence: The council values excellence and recognizes it through scholarships, internships, the Honouring Excellence program and external recognition opportunities.

Citizenship: The council contributes individually and collectively to the college by serving as the voice of alumni.

How can I be involved?

There is currently a maximum of four open positions on the council (vice-chair and ambassadors). If you are interested in serving in this role and becoming a college ambassador, please contact Alumni Relations (403-329-7220).

You can also get involved with one of the Alumni Advisory Council’s committees. Every committee can benefit from the insight of additional Lethbridge College alumni.

Member terms and recruitment process

The council is made up of 10 to 12 members. Council members sign on to a minimum two-year commitment with the option of an annual re-commitment at the end of each term. Council members are required to participate on a minimum of one committee annually.

The council executive is made up of a chair, vice-chair and past-chair. The chair must commit to a two-year term with the option of a one-year renewal for a maximum of three years served. The vice-chair assumes the role of chair when the current chair finishes his/her term, and the current chair moves into the past-chair role.

Member recruitment

All council members actively consider alumni for roles on committees or on the council. However, we encourage you to submit your information or your suggestions to the Alumni Relations coordinator if you or someone you know may be interested in a position with the council.

Inquiries will be passed along to the chair of the Alumni Advisory Council and the manager of Development and Alumni Relations for further review. A meeting will then be scheduled to determine if those who have inquired are the right fit for the council

Executive renewal

At the time that the council chair completes his/her term, the past-chair, chair and vice-chair will meet to discuss potential of council members to replace the vice-chair. This nomination committee will be responsible for considering, contacting and asking a council member to assume the vice-chair position.

Your 2017-2018 Council

Chair: David Cocks (Engineering Design and Drafting Technology ’01)

David Cocks graduated from Lethbridge College in 2001 with a diploma in Engineering Drafting Design and Technologies. He then continued his education at the University of Lethbridge where he completed his degree in Art History and Museum Studies. David then moved on to Dalhousie University where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design followed by his Master of Architecture degree. David is currently an intern architect at Ferrari Westwood Babits Architects in Lethbridge. In addition to serving on the Alumni Advisory Council he serves as President of the Southern Alberta Art Gallery.

Ambassador: Bret Wolfer (Business Administration Accounting ’02)

Bret Wolfer graduated from Lethbridge College in 2002 with a diploma in Business Administration. He then continued his education at Athabasca University where he completed his degree in Management with great distinction. Bret has worked in the financial services industry for the past 10 years and currently serves as a relationship manager with Farm Credit Canada. He enjoys giving back to the community through his involvement in various organizations, including the Lethbridge Rotary Club, Junior Achievement and his local church.

Ambassador: Aloyuisius Black Water (Computer Information Technology ’03)

Aloyuisius Black Water graduated from Lethbridge College in 2003 from the Computer Information Technology program. After he completed his studies, Aloyuisius was hired as a geographic information systems technician with Blood Tribe Land Management and later became the geomatics services manager. From 2012-2016, he served as a council member of the Blood Tribe Chief and Council and was delegated to the Economic Pillar. Aloyuisius is honoured to have been involved in the development of the Blood Tribe Agricultural Training Initiative (BTATI), a partnership between Blood Tribe Agricultural Project (BTAP), Lethbridge College and several Blood Tribe Administration departments, as well as the establishment of the new Kainai Marketplace. As a graduate of Kainai High School and proud member of the Blood Tribe, Aloyuisius is passionate about seeing members of his community succeed, and education is an important part of this. Lethbridge College has been key to Aloyuisius' personal success and he continues to be involved as an alumnus.

Ambassador: Tom McKenzie (Law Enforcement ’76)

Tom McKenzie graduated from Lethbridge College’s Criminal Justice program in 1976. The program marked the start of a 38-year career with the Lethbridge Regional Police Service. Tom served the last seven-and-a-half years of his career as chief of police before retiring in 2014. A 2008 Distinguished Alumni honouree, Tom is an active alumnus, an advocate for criminal justice programming and a passionate member of the Lethbridge community. He currently serves as a board member on the Lethbridge College Board of Governors, the Lethbridge and District Exhibition, Aboriginal Housing Society and the Saami (Eagle Feather Headdress) Society. Previously, he has served on the Law Enforcement Advisory Board, the Centre for Advancement of Criminal Justice, Special Olympics Alberta and the Law Enforcement Torch Run in Support of Special Olympics. Tom’s Blackfoot name is Mistaki’ikitstaki (Mountain Offering).

Ambassador: Matt Wright (Communication Arts ’05)

Matt Wright graduated from Lethbridge College in 2005 with a diploma in Communication Arts specialising in Broadcast Journalism. Since then he has followed his passion at television stations in both Saskatchewan and Alberta. He is now the Director of Account Management for a Calgary-based communications agency specializing in Video, V Strategies. Matt believes that his experience at Lethbridge College has given him the foundation to follow his passion and has enabled him to be successful in his industry. He wants to share his pride of being a Lethbridge College graduate with fellow alumni and future ones for years to come.

Ambassador: Gayle Weeks (Business Administration '92)

Gayle Weeks CPA, CMA graduated from Lethbridge College in 1992 with a diploma in Business Administration (Honours). Gayle furthered her education through both the University of Lethbridge and the Society of Management Accountants of Alberta earning a Certified Management Accountant designation in 1995. After eleven years working in the airline industry, Gayle joined Lethbridge College in 2005 where she has recently retired from the position of Executive Director Planning. In addition to serving on the Advisory Council, Gayle serves as a Director on the Board of Castle Mountain Resort.

Ambassador: Meagan Williams (Digital Communications and Media '16)

Meagan Williams graduated from the Digital Communications and Media program, completing the Digital Journalism stream with Honours, in 2016. As a relatively new alumna of the college, Meagan is currently forging her new career path at the University of Lethbridge as a communications officer. Meagan came to the college as a mature student and brought with her an extensive background in administration in the design and creative industries along with post-graduate medical education. Meagan was the recipient of several student awards during her time at the college, including the Louise McKinney Scholarship in 2015 and the prestigious Troy Reeb Scholarship in 2016. Passionate about current affairs and politics, Meagan is a proud alumna of Lethbridge College as her education has paved the way for a bright and fulfilling future.
